Bayfield Winter Festival

A wild weekend of winter fun - March 1-3, 2019

Friday, March 1
9:30am-8pm  Lifts and Chalet 0pen at Mt Ashwabay
4-7pm  Open Swim at the Bayfield Rec Center
4-9pm  First Friday Wine Bar at Wild Rice Retreat - Open to the public with small plates and wine and beer available for purchase. Live music by Mark Phillips 5:30-8:30. 
5:30-6:30pm  Happy Hour Yoga at Wild Rice Retreat - Donation-based class with Instructor Darcy Schwerin.
6-11:30pm  9th Annual Freeze Your Glass Off Party at The Creamery with Doane Beer - The Official Bayfield Winter Festival Kick Off! Complimentary Chili from 6pm till it's gone. Bingo from 7-8pm (limit 50 participants). Live Music by Hoff Stevens 8:30-11:30pm.
6:30pm  Candlelight Walk on the Brownstone Trail at Wild Rice Retreat with Landmark Conservancy (formerly Bayfield Regional Conservancy) - Candlelit luminaries will guide walkers along Bayfield’s beloved community trail. The walk begins and ends at Wild Rice Retreat, with parking and bathrooms available there. Approximately 1 mile round-trip. Cocoa and cookies will be provided at the end of the walk, while participants enjoy the fireplace on the deck. 

Saturday, March 2
9:30am-8pm  Lifts and Chalet open at Mt Ashwabay
10am-5pm  Poker Run in Downtown Bayfield hosted by Participating Bayfield Retail Shops and The Creamery - Visit participating retailers to pick up cards. Best three hands win!
10am-2pm  Fat Tire Bike Mini Tours at Bayfield Lakeside Pavilion with North Coast Cycling Association - Try winter fat tire biking on the big lake. No experience necessary! $15 for bike rental, helmet, and guided 45 minute bike ride right on Lake Superior. Rides leave every hour on the hour from 10am-2pm. If lake conditions are unsafe, the rides will be relocated. 
10-4pm  Open Swim at the Bayfield Rec Center
Beginning at 12pm - Pier Plaza - Get your warm food and beverages inside at the Pier restaurant and outside on their deck while enjoying the polar plunge and other activities! They’ll have items that’ll heat you up and cheer you on!
12-1pm  Polar Plunge Sign In at the Bayfield Lakeside Pavilion - All plungers must sign in, turn in pledges, and sign/turn in waivers. Those not registered by 1pm will not be permitted to plunge. Minimum total pledges of $50/plunger.
1pm  Penguin Egg Hunt in Memorial Park  
1:30pm-2pm  United States Coast Guard Ice Rescue Demo in front of the Bayfield Lakeside Pavilion
2pm-3pm  Polar Plunge in front of the Bayfield Lakeside Pavilion - Take the plunge or come to watch! (You can register the day of at the Bayfield Lakeside Pavilion from 12-1pm! Minimum of $50 in pledges per plunger. ALL plungers must register in advance and sign a waiver. Plungers under 18 years of age must have their waiver signed by a parent or guardian. Please plan accordingly, there are no exceptions. Registration forms and waivers are available in advance at the Bayfield Rec Center.)
3-8pm  Youth Downhill Ski Night at Mt Ashwabay - $10 for lift ticket and free rentals for youth under 18.
4-8pm  Candlelight Ski/Bike/Snowshoe at Howl Adventure Center - Bring your own gear or demo Howl's gear from 4-6.  Onsite trails lit by ice luminaries (but bring your headlamp, too!).  Warm up by the campfire afterwards and enjoy a beer in the future Adventure Club Taproom!
7pm  Swing into Spring Party at Mt Ashwabay - Live music by Noble at 7pm. Lifts until 8. Bar will stay open during music. 
4-6pm  Open Kayaking at the Bayfield Rec Center - All ability and experience levels welcome!
5pm-6:30pm  Poker Run Hand Turn In and Winners at The Creamery - Turn in your cards from 5pm-6pm, winners announced at 6:15pm. Top three hands win! 

Sunday, March 3
7am-12pm 5th Annual Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser at Legendary Waters Resort & Casino - Support the Red Cliff Volunteer Fire Department!  All you can eat for just $7.  Kids under 3 eat free!

11am  2nd Annual Sap Run Skijoring Race at Mt Ashwabay - 3k and 5k 1-dog skijoring races. $25 entry fee. All skill levels welcome.  For more information or to register email john@mtashwabay.org or call 715-779-3227.
11am-4:30pm  Lifts and Chalet open at Mt Ashwabay
1-5pm  Drop In Broomball at Wineries on Betzold Road - Celebrate Winter Festival with a game -or more!- of broomball! Get a team together or just drop in and play. Not interested in playing? Cheer on the players from the warming hut. Stop inside the Wineries for hot soup and grilled cheese, South Shore Brewery beers, Bayfield Winery & Seven Ponds Winery wines -try it hot and mulled! - as well as coffee, hot cocoa, and more.
1-4pm  Open Swim at the Bayfield Rec Center
4-6pm  Log Rolling and Water Polo at the Bayfield Rec Center - All ability and experience levels welcome!

We provide and support affordable access to facilities, programs, classes, and events that promote health, activity, and fun. Need-based financial assistance is available. Find your fit with RFR!
