Brittany Schmitt

Program & Aquatics Director
brittany@recreationandfitnessresources.org

My role at RFR
As the Program & Aquatics Director of RFR, my main focus is on Aspire Martial Arts and our Aquatics Program in addition to doing anything else that needs to get done. My pride and joy is Aspire Martial Arts. I started Aspire in 2010, and the program has now grown to over 50 active students. And of course the Point to La Pointe is my favorite day of the year, it's like Christmas.

My favorite RFR program or event
Aspire Martial Arts and Point to La Pointe Swim

Why I love the Bayfield area
I attended Northland College and never left. I like having so many recreational opportunities at my fingertips. I also love the friendly small town life, great local sources of food and locally owned businesses, and most of all the lake!

My community involvement
I love being able to teach youth and adults martial arts. There is nothing more rewarding then being able to have a positive impact on an individual's life. It is a great feeling to watch students set goals and experience personal achievement. I also teach Red Cross CPR/AED/FA classes to other area organizations.

Rosa Karl

Administrative Director
rosa@recreationandfitnessresources.org

My role at RFR
If you need information I will help you find it! I handle invoicing, payroll, paying bills, social media, memberships, health insurance relationships, program registrations and many programming details as well as a little of everything else!

My favorite RFR program or event
My favorite program is Aspire Martial Arts. I started six years ago, and I am constantly challenged and inspired by the program. My daughters also love it, as well as swim team and sailing.

Why I love the Bayfield area
I love the northland because of the Big Lake and the woods. The people are amazing here!

My community involvement
I spent many years volunteering at the school as a classroom aide helping students with math and reading. I've also been a community reader at the Bayfield Head Start and have run a small library for the students there. I love getting to know all the kids and then seeing them at the Rec Center!

Isaac Shrider

RFR Operations Manager
isaac@recreationandfitnessresources.org

My role at RFR
I oversee day to day operations at the Rec Center, lifeguard and teach swimming lessons. I am really excited to be at the Rec Center to help it grow and continue to make it a place that is driven by the community.

My favorite RFR program or event
I love teaching our swimming lessons! You get to see the students progress from class to class, and learn with them. It is very rewarding knowing you are helping the kids learn a skill they will know for the rest of their lives.

Why I love the Bayfield area
This seems like a common sense answer to me! I love the Bayfield area because of all the outdoor opportunities. I grew up sailing and exploring the islands on Lake Superior with my parents and have continued to grow more attached to the area over the years.

Anne Marie McCutchen

Rec Center Staff

My role at RFR
You'll see me in many roles at RFR: at the main desk, working the front garden, lifeguarding,  log rolling instructor and taking care of the facility.

My favorite RFR program or event
I have been in Aspire for more than 4 years and am currently a brown belt. I also love log rolling!

Why I love the Bayfield area
I like Bayfield because it's subtle in the way that there is a lot more to do than meets the eye!

My favorite RFR program or event
There are programs other than Swim Team?

Why I love the Bayfield area
Because we’re surrounded by Lake Superior – the greatest lake in the world!

My Favorite RFR Program or Event
Our Silver Sneakers class, the weight room, and the sauna (in winter).

Why I love the Bayfield Area
I love the unspoiled natural beauty & small town charm of this area. Lake Superior and the Apostle Islands are pretty amazing as well.

My Role at RFR
I am happy to be teaching Aqua Fit Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at the Rec Center in that beautiful pool. I was a participant in Aqua Fit classes at the Oxford Pool in St Paul for many years and really enjoy being able to share some beneficial techniques. I continue to introduce new activities into my routines and try to keep the Class enjoying their exercise - I always do! It is such a wonderful group of people wanting to experience a healthy and fun activity. It is as social or focused as you choose and it is always fun.
You don't have to get your hair wet if you don't want to. We use equipment: noodles, water weights, stretchy bands, and small rubber balls. I hope many people try it, Water is a safe way to get a challenging workout because it is non-impact. Thanks to all the nice, interesting, and talented Aerobic Athletes and to staff who keep us safe and moving.

My Favorite RFR Program or Event
My favorite programs.... I'll have to think about that. So much is offered for all ages and interests. I think I would choose water activities because I love to swim laps, do Water Aerobics, and am glad there are opportunities to take Swim Lessons. I also enjoy Silver Sneakers, it compliments the water workout on land.

Why I love the Bayfield Area
I love this whole area. I grew up on Madeline Island all the Summers of my youth, worked on the Island all summer during the 60's, went roller skating and to the movies in Bayfield and spent plenty of time in the Lake. I moved to Madeline permanently after I retired from teaching and feel as though I am home. I have seven siblings, six of us have homes on the Island, 3 year round, the other two come visit as much as they can. Needless to say, we love Madeline Island and this entire area.
