Run/Bike on Water
Sunday, March 4, 2018
Race across Lake Superior to Madeline Island on the famous ice road (as featured in The Runner's Bucket List by Denise Malan)!
Registration for the Run or Bike on Water is $15 and can be done online or at the Bayfield pavilion starting at 9 a.m. (cash or check only please).
This is a fundraising event for the Friends of the Recreation Center and the Bayfield Area Recreation Center. Thank you for your support!
Registrants can purchase t-shirts for $10. Cutoff time for the race support and finish line timing will be 11:30 p.m.
Run on Water (or walk, bike, snowshoe, skate...)
The run is a family-friendly event open to all ages and skill levels. Participants can choose to run, walk, ski, snowshoe, bike, skate or even skijor the 4.3-mile course on the famous "ice road" across frozen Lake Superior from Bayfield to Madeline Island and back.
The race will start on the Bayfield side. Participants must go around a stake on the Madeline Island side about 2.1 miles away, then return to the start. Participants can choose their own course to turn the stake - on the ice road, off the ice road, straight or curving. All entrants will be started and timed together. Awards will be given to the top runners in age/gender group categories and the fastest finishers in non-running modes.
Bike on Water
The Bike on Water will start 5 minutes before the run. The course will follow the ice road 2 miles to Madeline Island, then follow roads and trails on the island, before returning to Bayfield on the same ice road. Course distance still to be determined. All bikes are welcome, but strongly recommend either fat tires or studded tires.
